Women’s Health Symposia,
Camellia Inn & Suites hotel, 4422 Y Street, Sacramento. Intended to provide primary care providers with updated information on important and rapidly advancing areas of women’s health, including the management and diagnosis of breast lumps and breast cancer; and recent advances in the use of hormone replacement therapy for non-gynecological disorders such as heart disease and osteoporosis. Other topics include the use of designer estrogens and soy estrogens, and controversies in breast cancer, such as the use of hormone replacement therapy in breast cancer survivors. The symposia are sponsored by the UC Davis Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Continuing Medical Education. “Optimizing Your Skin Health and Facial Appearance,”
part of the “Coming of Age” lecture series sponsored by the UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging, UC Davis Cancer Center auditorium, 4501 X St., Sacramento. Strategies for maintaining, restoring and rejuvenating your skin as you age will be discussed. The natural aging process and the effect of sun damage will be covered, as will the most current cosmetic dermatologic solutions to correct facial scars, broken blood vessels, wrinkles and pigmentation problems. “More Joy in Life,”
a confidential discussion group sponsored by the Academic and Staff Assistance Program, Ticon III, conference room 2B. Discussion is intended to help participants learn new coping strategies, identify roadblocks to joy, and handle depression. the annual Robert B. Pierce Sr., M.D. Memorial Lecture, Patient Support Services Building, room G300. The lecture will be delivered by Ezekiel J. Emanuel, chair of the Department of Clinical Bioethics at the Warren G. Magnuson Clinical Center at the National Institutes for Health.

Although some women are too embarassed to get help for urinary incontinence, millions of women are being successfully treated and cured. Learn what causes incontinence and some practical strategies to help maintain control of your bladder. The speaker is Victoria L. Handa, director of urogynecology at UC Davis Medical Center.

Second Annual Bronte Epilepsy Research Golf Classic
, benefiting the Bronte Epilepsy Research Center at UC Davis Medical Center, Del Paso Country Club, Sacramento. The tournament and the research center are named for a 7-year-old girl being treated for epilepsy at UC Davis Medical Center. The tournament will feature a four-person, best-ball team format with a shotgun start at noon. There also will be tee prizes during the tournament. After the golf, there will be cocktails, dinner and an awards presentation. Individual entry fees are $250. Sponsorships are available at levels ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Thank Goodness for Staff/Diversity Appreciation Day
luncheon and awards ceremony, corner of 45th and X streets. This year, luncheon tickets will be distributed to departments and provided by UC Davis Health System at no cost to employees. The menu will consist of a hamburger or garden burger, salad, chips, dessert and drinks. A car show and softball tournament also are among the Thank Goodness for Staff Day events. Both will take place on Wednesday, May 23. Employees interested in displaying a vehicle should contact Larry Johnson at (916) 734-4659. The softball tournament will be held at Tahoe Park, located at 11th Avenue and 59th Street. Employees and family members are eligible to participate. A registration fee of $45 per team is required.
