Popular speaker and author to describe benefits of support groups

Ellen Daniell, a molecular biologist and author of "Every Other Thursday,” a book that describes her experience with a support group of women scientists, will speak at the next Women in Medicine meeting on Thursday, September 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Courtyard by Marriott Magnolia Room.

Daniell is a former faculty member at UC Berkeley, has held management positions in the biotechnology industry, and is a writer and consultant. A popular speaker, she was featured recently at the New York Academy of Sciences for Women’s History Month, Swarthmore College and UC San Francisco.

In the 25-plus year history of her support group, Daniell said that all participants benefited from the discussion of common experiences and challenges, the insight of broader perspectives, and being part of a group in which everyone is on your side. Members of the group, who have attained prominent positions, including membership in the National Academy of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, have cited the support of others as an important part of their success.

The event will include appetizers and a beverage bar. Online registration is available at http://somapp.ucdavis.edu/academicaffairs/courses/ or by contacting Cheryl Busman at (916) 703-9183 by September 8.
