Nominations sought for leadership programs

Nominations are being accepted for two Human Resources programs designed to cultivate and nurture aspiring new managers and leaders for UC Davis Health System: the Leadership Academy and the Women’s Leadership Institute.

In its second year, the Leadership Academy is intended to prepare employees to become future leaders of the health system. The academy consists of a series of courses in leading complex organizations, writing techniques, performance management, communication and understanding how different generations view the workplace.

The Women’s Leadership Institute, also in its second year, focuses on women in management positions. Four of the courses in this series will be combined with the Leadership Academy, and the remainder of the courses will focus on personality types and gender, healthy strategies for women leaders, and power and influence from a woman’s perspective.

Class instructors for the Women’s Leadership Institute will feature high-profile women from UC Davis and the local community, including Martha West, UC Davis professor of Law; Nicole Biggart, dean of the UC Davis Graduate School of Management; and Amparo Villablanca, associate professor of cardiovascular medicine.

Employees may nominate themselves for the academy, or be nominated by a supervisor/manager or another individual who sees their potential for leadership. For detailed descriptions of the two programs, go to the Web at The Leadership Academy and Women’s Leadership Institute.

The programs begin October 3, 2006 and end June 7, 2007.

Deadline for nomination forms is 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 22. Questions should be directed to Susan Summers at susan.summers@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.
