Entries, sponsorships sought for Mark Wineinger Golf Tournament
Entries are being accepted for the Third Annual Mark Wineinger Memorial Golf Tournament, which is named after the late UC Davis associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation and directs its proceeds toward helping physically disabled patients.
The tournament will be held Aug. 19 at the WildHorse Golf Course in Davis. Proceeds will go to the Jireh Foundation, founded by Wineinger in 2000, one year after he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Wineinger created the foundation to provide physically disabled patients with the equipment and services needed to improve their quality of life, which they would be unable to obtain otherwise.
“His compassion as a physician was demonstrated by his desire to serve the underserved, and his dedication as a teacher of medicine was exemplary,” said Sheryl Nichols, an administrative assistant in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. “His premature death at the age of 50 has left a permanent void in the hearts of his family, friends and colleagues. In his memory, we strive to continue his mission with this foundation.”
Sponsorships are available at levels from $100 to $1,000. Tournament sponsors also are seeking donations of raffle prizes and golfers, at an entry fee of $100 per golfer.
