Hansen receives mentoring award from UC Davis Consortium for Women and Research
Robin Hansen, UC Davis professor of pediatrics, has been selected as a 2006 recipient of the UC Davis Consortium for Women and Research Outstanding Mentor Award.
The Consortium for Women and Research is dedicated to the support of research by and on women and on gender in its multiple intersections with race, class, and sexual and national identity. The consortium’s Outstanding Mentor Awards are intended to honor Academic Senate and Academic Federation members for mentoring post-docs, graduate students and/or undergraduates in research and professional development and includes $500 toward research support.
Hansen is chief of the Division of Developmental Pediatrics and the director of clinical services at UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute.
One of the nominators for Hansen stated that she “has a long history of successful mentoring, particularly for women in medicine and all health-care providers. Her interpersonal skills and listening abilities help her mentees communicate their concerns regarding their careers, their research and their problems.”
Another nominator described Hansen as “an excellent role model for women in that she is accomplished and knowledgeable, diplomatic yet strong, hard-working yet lives a balanced life and is readily available to teach, guide and mentor.” A third nominator noted that under Hansen’s direction, the Department of Pediatrics formed a mentoring committee and produced a report that has been “literally our roadmap for mentoring junior faculty” within the department. “Not only has this been wonderfully successful, the leadership of the School of Medicine has taken the template of Dr. Hansen’s work and transformed it into a plan for mentoring throughout the School of Medicine.”
