Christmas in June

The holidays arrived early for the young patients of UC Davis Children's Hospital. Earlier this week, several dozen police, sheriff and highway patrol officers from around the region trekked into the medical center bearing boxes of gifts for youngsters. Everything from DVD players to cuddly dolls were distributed in an event billed as the "Cops for Kids" toy run. The toys,

This was the first year for what organizers plan to establish as an annual event. The group got support from a number of air operations pilots based around Northern and Central California who helped fly many of the gifts into Sacramento. In addition to toys and electronic items, the Cops for Kids group also donated $1,000 to the Children's Hospital and distributed gift cards that can be used for cell phone calls, downloading music and other goodies.
