Cancer survivors’ picnic and art exhibit
Cancer survivors and their family members, friends and caregivers from throughout the greater Sacramento region are invited to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day at a picnic and survivors' art exhibit on Saturday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at UC Davis Cancer Center, 4501 X St., Sacramento. The event is free, but registration is required. To register, call (916) 734-0823 or e-mail survivorsweek@ucdavis.edu.
In addition to the exhibit of artwork by cancer survivors, the event will include a performance by Fairfield-based comedienne and cancer survivor René Hicks, a healthy-eating demonstration, arts and crafts for children and teens, and informational booths.
During the week leading up to the picnic, UC Davis Cancer Center is offering several other events to mark National Cancer Survivors Day. For a complete list of these events, all free and open to the public, visit www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/cancer.
National Cancer Survivors Day, now in its 19th year, is celebrated in hundreds of communities throughout North America. Typically held the first weekend in June, the event honors the nation's 10 million cancer survivors and demonstrates that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.
