Two models of office chairs subject of recall
Two chair models manufactured by Steelcase in use at UC Davis Health System are being recalled to repair a base susceptible to breaking.
The chairs are Criterion and Rally models, with a shipping date between Oct. 15, 1996, and March 12, 1997. Steelcase will replace the bases on these chairs at no cost. Around 700 of the chairs are in use at the health system.
The chairs can be identified by inspecting the manufacturer’s tag on the bottom of the chair. The affected models have model numbers that begin with either 453 or 457 and were shipped between the dates mentioned above.
Employees also should check for cracks in the chair's base at the center hub. If the chair's base is cracked, the chair should be taken out of service immediately.
Departments with one or more of the affected chairs should send an e-mail to Kathy Gasser at kathyg@ucfinc.com of United Corporate Furnishings by May 30th, 2006, with the following information:
- Department name, location and contact information
- Model number, ship date and finish numbers on the manufacturer tag location of the chair
- Whether or not any chairs currently have a cracked base (if necessary, a replacement chair will be provided for your department)
Steelcase will be sending a crew to UC Davis to replace the chairs' bases beginning in June. The bases on all chairs meeting criteria (cracked or not) will be replaced by Steelcase at no charge.
Those with questions should contact Espie Espena of the Facilites Planning department at espie.espena@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.
