Artwork by cancer survivors sought for June 3 exhibit
UC Davis Cancer Center invites submissions of artwork by cancer survivors for a June 3 art exhibit on the main floor of the cancer center at 4501 X St., Sacramento. Submissions may be in any artistic medium, including clay, textiles, sketches and paintings.
Artwork will be on display from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, in conjunction with a Survivors Picnic at UC Davis Cancer Center. The picnic is the final event in a weeklong series of activities sponsored by UC Davis Cancer Center to mark National Cancer Survivors Day.
If you would like to submit work for possible display at the picnic, please contact Toni Poppe at (916) 734-5786 or tjpoppe@ucdavis.edu.
The picnic will also feature informational booths, community exhibits, a healthy eating demonstration, and activities for children and teens. The picnic is free and open to the public with registration. To register, call (916) 734-0823 or e-mail survivorsweek@ucdavis.edu.
National Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated on the first weekend in June in hundreds of communities throughout North America. The event celebrates the 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed with cancer and are alive today, together with their families, friends and health-care providers.
In addition to the Survivors Picnic, UC Davis Cancer Center is planning a lunch-hour discussion of survivorship on Tuesday, May 30; a six-hour workshop, “Return to the Healing Garden: Cultivating a Healing Life” on Wednesday, May 31; an evening forum co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society on cancer clinical trials; and a small-group evening workshop for couples, “Cancer for 2,” on Friday, June 2.
All events are free, open to the public with registration, and take place at the cancer center or at the Courtyard by Marriott Midtown on the UC Davis Medical Center campus.
