UC Davis Health System will participate in the Fourth Annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 27.
Faculty and staff will offer guided tours of the pathology laboratory, operating room, pediatrics unit and center for virtual care from 1:15 until about 3:15 p.m. Registration is not required to participate. Those interested in joining the tour should meet at the Tower Lobby. Tours will be held approximately every 30-45 minutes. Space may be limited on certain tours to allow adequate space to appreciate the unique features of the hospital departments and units visited.
The activities are designed for girls and boys between the ages of eight and 12. Employees are encouraged to participate provided their work schedules allow and they have supervisory approval.
“Our goal is to show children some of the great work that goes on at the medical center and to get them interested in careers in medicine and science,” said Marcia Hartman, a UC Davis Health System environmental health and safety specialist who helped coordinate the event. “And while children will get a good overview of our hospital, we’ve designed the program with safety and security in mind.”
For example, Hartman says children will not tour areas where patients are actively receiving care, and they won’t have access or exposure to any protected health information, which includes medical and billing details. They also will not be logging on to computer systems that contain patient data, or viewing diagnostic images like x-rays or pathology slides unless all patient-identifying information has been removed.
The event is co-sponsored by UC Davis Medical Center’s Status of Women at Davis Administrative Advisory Committee; the Office of Equal Opportunity, Mediation, Sexual Harassment/Human Resources; and the UC Davis Children's Hospital. |
