Donations of catastrophic leave sought for Public Affairs assistant

The Department of Public Affairs is appealing for donations of catastrophic leave time for an employee who is experiencing an extended, difficult illness.

The illness has caused Margarita (Maggie) Balderas, an administrative assistant in the department, to exhaust all of her accrued vacation and sick leave. The university has approved an exception to policy to allow employees to donate accrued vacation leave.

These conditions apply to donations:

• All donations are confidential.
• The minimum donation is eight hours. Donations higher than the minimum must be in whole-hour increments.
• Once processed, donations are irrevocable.
• Departments transfer donated time. Employees should not make modifications to their time card.
