National Cancer Survivors Day Art Exhibit
UC Davis Cancer Center is seeking submissions of artwork
from cancer survivors for a June 3 art exhibit
on the main floor of the Cancer Center. Submissions may be
in any artistic medium, including clay, textiles, sketches
and paintings.
The art exhibit is planned as one of a weeklong series of programs and events to mark National Cancer Survivors Day at UC Davis Cancer Center. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of a Survivors Picnic that will take place in the plaza in front of the Cancer Center, at 4501 X St. in Sacramento. The picnic will also feature informational booths, community exhibits, a healthy eating demonstration and activities for children and teens.

National Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated the first Sunday in June in more than 700 communities in the United States and Canada. The event honors the 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed with cancer and are alive today, together with their families, friends and health care providers.
In addition to the Survivors Picnic, UC Davis Cancer Center is planning the following events in connection with National Cancer Survivors Day. All are free and open to the public, although space is limited in some of the programs.
- Tuesday, May 30: "What does it mean to be a cancer survivor?" Part of the Cancer Center's ongoing Learn at Lunch Series. Noon to 1 p.m. UC Davis Cancer Center auditorium.
- Wednesday, May 31: "Return to the Healing Garden: Cultivating a Healing Life," a workshop intended to help participants "reconnect with those things that make life worth living, through the power of stories and music". 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Camellia Ballroom, Courtyard by Marriott, 4422 Y St., Sacramento.
- Thursday, June 1: "Clinical Trials - Inside & Out," a forum co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Cancer Center auditorium.
- Friday, June 2: "Cancer for 2" A small-group workshop to help couples deal with the impact of cancer on their relationships. 7 to 9 p.m. Camellia Ballroom, Courtyard by Marriott, 4422 Y St., Sacramento.
