Informatics Program seeks applications for master’s program

The UC Davis Health Informatics Program is accepting applications through May 31 for its Master’s Degree Program, which will begin with Fall Quarter 2006.

Health Informatics has been described as the interdisciplinary science that deals with the structure, acquisition and use of biomedical information. The 28 faculty members of the Health Informatics Graduate Group have home departments in the School of Medicine, the School of Veterinary Medicine, the Genome Center and the College of Engineering. The program’s courses include instruction on electronic medical records, data acquisition, decision support systems, medical data and messaging standards, telemedicine, data modeling, and database design.

The curriculum is geared to health professionals who hold an advanced degree, such as MD, DVM, MPH, RN or FNP, with a bachelor’s degree. Enrollment and completion of this program fulfills the advanced degree requirement for assuming nursing management positions at UC Davis Health System. Applicants who do not wish to undertake the entire master’s degree program may be eligible to take individual courses separately as part of a certificate program.

For further information about the program, visit the program’s Web site at http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/informatics. The program also may be contacted at (916) 734-8710 or ucdinformatics@ucdavis.edu.
