Nominations sought for Thank Goodness for Faculty and Staff awards

Nominations are being accepted for awards in three program areas from UC Davis Health System’s Thank Goodness for Faculty and Staff award programs for 2005-06.

The honors available from the programs are the Vice Chancellor’s Awards, the Faculty and House Staff Awards, and the Director’s Awards. Following are descriptions of each:

Vice Chancellor’s Award Program

The Vice Chancellor's Award Program is for nominees from the UC Davis School of Medicine. Departments are invited to make recommendations for a small number of these awards, granted at the Vice Chancellor's discretion, to recognize contributions of a magnitude that clearly stand apart in scope, impact and effort in service to the program, department, school, health system or university.

Vice Chancellor Awards will not be granted routinely, but as an option for the Associate/Assistant Dean, department chair or manager to recommend and the Vice Chancellor to consider granting when extraordinarily meritorious service is identified.

Faculty and House Staff Award Program

The Faculty and House Staff Award Program is for nominees from the hospital and School of Medicine. The award could be granted in recognition of contributions of a magnitude that clearly stand apart in scope, impact and effort in service to the program, department, school, health system or university. These awards will not be granted routinely, but for instances of extraordinarily meritorious service. Nominations are encouraged in these categories: Faculty Member of the Year, MSP Physician of the Year and House Staff Member of the Year. Awards will not exceed $5,000 and are for individual rather than group achievements. Up to two nominations will be accepted in each category (staff, faculty and house staff). They should be ranked in priority order with a brief paragraph summarizing the nominee's meritorious service.

Director’s Award Program

The health system’s Chief Officers/Executive Directors/Director's Cabinet members are invited to make recommendations for a small number of Director's Awards. These awards will be granted at the director's discretion for contributions that clearly stand apart in scope, impact and effort in service to the program, department, school, health system or university. Director's Awards will not be granted routinely, but as an option for the Director's Cabinet members to recommend and the director to grant for extraordinarily meritorious service. This year, for the second time, awards will be granted to staff, faculty and house staff. Individual nominations are encouraged in each of these categories. Awards will not exceed $5,000 and are for individual rather than group achievements. Each School of Medicine department is being asked if they employ individuals who meet these qualifications, and up to two nominations in each category (staff, faculty and house staff), ranked in priority order with a brief paragraph summarizing the nominees' meritorious service, will be accepted.

Nominations for these award programs should be submitted to Gloria Alvarado, Executive Director, Human Resources, by e-mail no later than Friday, March 17, at gloria.alvarado@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.

All awards will be presented during the Thank Goodness for Staff/ Diversity Appreciation Day Breakfast on May 22 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
