Medical center employees switch to new timekeeping system
Current users of the Kronos Time and Attendance system at UC Davis Medical Center have completed a switch from the telephone entry of time to a badge-reading system.
Employees began the move away from paper timecards in June 2003, with most hourly employees using the telephone to record their daily entries into the Kronos Time and Attendance System. Starting in January, these employees switched from the phone system to another that involves passing their card keys over a wall-mounted unit. The units, installed in hundreds of locations around the medical center, record employees’ arrival and departure times. The switch to the card-reading system was completed last month.
This month, employees of the Primary Care Network begin using the Kronos system. New groups of cost centers will switch from the traditional paper time cards to the Kronos system at intervals of approximately one month. Managers will be contacted by Payroll Services about two months prior to their go-live date to coordinate the transition. Training for managers and timekeepers will then be scheduled two-to-three weeks prior to their go-live date.
Exempt employees will not be required to use the card-reading system and will continue to enter only exception time via the Kronos Workforce Central online application.
A major improvement to the system allows us to grant all employees (with an active directory account) access to the Workforce Central web site to view their timecards. This access will not allow editing of any data, but is being provided for verification purposes only.
