Employees should check premium deductions for Supplemental Disability

The Benefits office is urging employees to review their paystubs/ SurePay statements to ensure that the premiums being deducted from their paychecks are enough to cover their benefit selections.

Employees are encouraged especially to check their premium deductions for Supplemental Disability insurance. For employees who enrolled in the Supplemental Disability program for the first time or changed their waiting period during Open Enrollment, the coverage changes were effective beginning Jan. 1, 2006. However, premiums for Supplemental Disability are paid in arrears.

  • For employees who changed their waiting period, the premium should change starting with the January earnings paid for monthly paid employees on their Feb. 1, 2006 paychecks.
  • For newly enrolled employees who did not previously have Supplemental Disability coverage, the first month of premiums is free. For these employees, the first premium will be deducted from the February earnings that are paid for monthly-paid employees on their March 1, 2006 paycheck.

John Peklar, manager of UC Davis Health System Benefits, encourages employees to review their SurePay statements each and every pay period to ensure that premiums are being deducted to cover the employee's benefit selections. Premium adjustments are limited to a 60-day period from the date the premiums are deducted.

Those with questions should call Benefits at (916) 734-8099.
