Shriners garage available for weekend parking for “B” permit holders

Due to continuing overcrowded conditions in the main parking garage at UC Davis Medical Center, Parking Services has arranged for “B” permit holders to use the Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California parking structure from 6 p.m. on Fridays to 3 a.m. on Mondays.

Crowded week-end conditions force patients and visitors to park in outlying lots. As a result, Parking Services must relocate 150-175 “B” permit holders now using the parking structure on the week-ends. With the use of programmed access cards, “B” permit holders may use the covered parking at the Shriners garage. The access cards are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some employees already have obtained the cards and report being pleased with the ease and convenience of using the Shriners facility.

The Shriners garage option currently is voluntary. However, if insufficient numbers of “B” permit holders do not use the Shriners garage voluntarily, then they will be relocated there on the basis of UC Davis Health System Policy and Procedure 3378, Section 4. D, which states, ”Parking availability is prioritized according to location and consistent with the need priorities; e.g., patient and visitor needs precede employee parking in the hospital district …”

“B” permit holders who obtain an access card for the Shriners garage are prohibited from parking in the medical center’s garage on week-ends, but can use the structure from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, as usual. Those with access cards to the Shriners garage must follow these guidelines:

  • Week-day access is prohibited in the Shriners garage. “B” permit holders should park in the medical center’s “B” parking lots on week days.
  • When parking in the Shriners garage, display your “B” permit in the lower left corner of the driver’s side of the windshield.
  • “B” permit holders assigned week-end access to the Shriners garage are prohibited from parking in the main parking structure at the medical center. Violators may receive a citation.

Employees interested in gaining access to the Shriners garage should go to the Parking Services Office and bring their “B” permit for updating. For more information, call the office at (916) 734-2687.
