Nominations sought for annual Diversity & Principles of Community Achievement Recognition Awards

Nominations are being accepted for the Diversity & Principles of Community Achievement Award, intended to recognize UC Davis employees who demonstrate diversity and Principles of Community efforts that exceed the expectations of their position.

All members of both the Davis campus and UC Davis Health System are encouraged to send in nominations for any of the awards described below. Recipients of the 2005 Diversity & Principles of Community Achievement Recognition Awards are ineligible.

Nominations are being accepted for these awards:

Individual Awards – Awards are intended to recognize campus and health system staff members who, through their personal efforts, have made significant contributions to affirmative action/equal employment opportunity and/or heightened awareness and sensitivity to diversity. Nominations received for contributions made by faculty, executives, student employees and/or community members will be considered for a Special Citation.

Deanna Falge Award – While the criteria for this award are consistent with the criteria for the individual award, it is expanded to recognize the ongoing (five years or more) demonstration of one's exemplary contributions toward the furthering of UC Davis' affirmative action/equal opportunity and/or diversity objectives.

Department/Unit/Team Award – This award is intended to recognize the UC Davis unit or team whose members, through their own personal or group efforts, have made significant contributions to affirmative action/equal employment opportunity and/or heightened awareness and sensitivity to diversity.

Criteria: Each nomination must include specific examples of contributions, such as: advancing awareness of affirmative action and/or diversity issues and concerns; modeling behavior consistent with the Principles of Community; advancing a positive work environment that is inclusive and bias-free; contributing substantially to achievement of affirmative action goals; participating productively in affirmative action and/or diversity programs; or demonstrating commitment to affirmative action and diversity through public service and community involvement. All nominations must address these same criteria.

Award recipients will be recognized at a reception and at the 14th annual celebration of the Principles of Community Event, "Soaring to New Heights," on April 11, 2006, at Freeborn Hall from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The deadline for nominations is Feb. 14, 2006. Nominations should be sent to: Tammy McNiff, Program and Business Manager, Office of Campus Community Relations, Offices of the Chancellor and Provost.
