Food and Nutrition Services to introduce new patient menu

Starting next week, the Food and Nutrition Services Department will change its patient food service to a one-weekly menu from which patients will have the choice of two different entrees at each meal. Therapeutic diet restrictions will remain in compliance with UC Davis Medical Center’s Diet Manual.

Here are the changes to patient food services, starting Tuesday, Jan. 10:

Breakfast

Patients will have the choice of a hot breakfast or a cold cereal both served with fruit, juice, coffee, and milk.

Staff from the Food and Nutrition Services Department will deliver meal trays on designated floors and retrieve them, as is the current practice.

Breakfast tray delivery will start daily at approximately 6:45 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m.

Lunch

Patients will receive a boxed meal in disposable containers. The patients will have the choice of a gourmet sandwich or an entrée salad served with a variety of side items. Soup will be offered as an accompaniment to the sandwich or salad. Patients on modified consistency diets (i.e., ground or pureed) will receive appropriate hot foods in disposable containers. Except for these circumstances, no hot food or beverages will be served during the lunch meal.

Staff from the Food and Nutrition Services Department will deliver the meal trays on the designated floors as is currently done. However, the staff will not retrieve the trays, as all items will be disposable and should be placed in waste receptacles in the patients' rooms.

Lunch tray delivery will start daily at approximately 11:15 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

Dinner

Patients will have the choice of two hot entrée items, which will be served with a variety of side items.

Staff from the Food and Nutrition Services Department will deliver the meal trays on designated floors and retrieve the dirty trays from the patients, as is currently done.

Dinner tray delivery will start daily at approximately at 4:45 p.m. and end at 7p.m.
