New drug target for inflammatory disease

UC Davis researchers, in defining a cellular process that promotes inflammation, have found a new target for drugs to treat diseases such as sepsis, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease and some cancers. Published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the study identified a protein that advances inflammation. Led by Yoshikazu Takada, professor of Dermatology, the research team will next be working to shut down the unwanted inflammatory response.
