In today's health-care environment, increasingly complex lifestyle diseases – cancer, heart diseases and diabetes – require that individuals are treated by teams made up of nurses with specialized expertise, physicians in different disciplines and other health-care professionals. The establishment of the new Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing will offer an educational curriculum that prepares students for this new multidisciplinary approach to health care.

More than two dozen thought leaders in nursing came together earlier this fall at a summit sponsored by UC Davis. Their mission was a lofty one – to identify current and future challenges in health care and create a roadmap for a nursing education curriculum that can meet the needs of the 21st century.
