As In three new studies, UC Davis Center for Children's Environmental Health Director Isaac N. Pessah and his research team found compelling evidence of how low levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) alter the way brain cells develop. The findings could explain at last – some 30 years after the toxic chemicals were banned in the United States – how PCBs alter the development and excitability of brain cells and could explain why PCBs are associated with higher rates of neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders.
