Healthy aging summits win national award An innovative program to improve the health of
the elderly in Sacramento's culturally diverse communities won a national award this spring from the American
Society on Aging.
The society recognized the multi-ethnic "healthy aging summits" planned and coordinated by the Healthy
Aging Coalition of Northern California. Aging sum- mits provide free health screening, referral for care
and culturally specific health information to older residents who have limited access to health care.
Locally, summits have been held for the African- American, Asian-American and Latino communities.
UC Davis leads the the Healthy Aging Coalition of Northern California which includes Kaiser Permanente,
Sutter Health, Catholic Healthcare West and local Mercy Hospitals, the California Department of Aging,
AARP, Hadassah, California State University, Sacramento, and many other government and non-profit entities.
