UC Davis Health System initiated the Northern California Healthy Aging Summit with the three local health systems and many community partners last fall. The event drew senior citizens, medical researchers, policymakers and health administrators to exchange information and develop better health services.
The event is part of an increasing, broad-based emphasis by the health system on aging. For the past two years, the UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging has sponsored its "Coming of Age" lecture series: free presentations on various aspects of aging, from fitness/ nutrition and sexuality to heart care and legal affairs. UC Davis also recently sponsored a free "mini medical school" in Roseville on aging and health science, and has increased collaborations between the School of Medicine and Division of Biological Sciences and other campus departments to better understand health changes associated with growing older.
