The big picture

UC Davis students, faculty and staff gathered to create a living heart formation
take heart

UC Davis students, faculty and staff gathered to create a living heart formation during the university’s third annual UC Davis Wears Red Day festivities on Feb. 5. UC Davis cardiologist Amparo Villablanca collaborated with UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi to launch UC Davis Wears Red Day in 2014, aligning it with National Wear Red Day, which promotes heart-health awareness among women. Villablanca is the Frances Lazda Endowed Chair in Women’s Cardiovascular Medicine at UC Davis, where she is best known for launching the nation’s first program dedicated to women’s heart health in 1994. Her UC Davis Women’s Cardiovascular Medicine Program provides expert and supportive cardiac treatment and raises awareness of heart disease as the nation’s leading cause of death among women.
