As many as 25 qualified community hospitals and primary-care clinics that want to establish telemedicine programs or improve existing infrastructure will be able to borrow telehealth equipment through the new UC Davis Proposition 1D Telemedicine Equipment Loan Program. By the end of this year, UC Davis will furnish videoconferencing units and peripheral medical equipment, including specialized cameras, as well as installation support and training to Northern California health-care sites that are public or non-profit entities and provide care to underserved populations. Telemedicine technology overcomes the lack of specialty medical care in rural and remote communities by affording access to a wide range of expertise, from pediatric critical care and radiology to infectious disease, dermatology and psychiatry.
