MASTER'S OF HEALTH INFORMATICS

Welcome Master's of Health Informatics Alumni

Health Informatics is the study of health-care information and electronic communication systems. With medical science and technology advancing at unprecedented rates, patient care and practice management are becoming more complex and challenging. Providers, researchers and patients are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with industry standards, health-care advances and the daunting amount of medical information now publicly available. Health informaticists develop, implement and maintain innovative information systems to help physicians, nurses and other health-care providers make evidence-based diagnoses and treatment decisions. Health informaticists also create information systems that educate health-care consumers and help ensure an efficient and cost-effective quality of care.

With courses offered in the evening or online to accommodate working professionals, UC Davis' master's degree in Health Informatics is designed to position graduates as influential and innovative professionals working in academic, industry, government and health-care settings. Established in 1999, the UC Davis Health Informatics Program is located within the UC Davis School of Medicine on the university's Sacramento campus. Students enjoy unique, multidisciplinary teaching collaboration with faculty, including deans, chairs, chief scientists and library directors from UC Davis' awardwinning schools and colleges (School of Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, College of Engineering, and the Proposed Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing). Students have a range of application areas to choose from, including bioterrorism surveillance, data mining, bioinformatics, ontology development, health information standards, public health informatics, clinical information systems, telemedicine, virtual reality security and 3D visualization.

We encourage you to share news about yourself in our class notes section of UC Davis Medicine magazine. Please send your e-mail address to cori.traub@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu so that we can include you in our requests for updates.
