Efforts to undermine smoke risk found

After combing through nearly 50 million pages of previously secret, internal tobacco-industry documents, UC Davis researcher Elisa K. Tong and UC San Francisco colleague Stanton A. Glantz authored a study published in the journal, Circulation, of how tobacco companies funded epidemiological and biological research designed to support claims that secondhand smoke posed little or no harm. They also found those studies were published in scientific journals that had industry representatives on their editorial boards and found that unfavorable study results were suppressed. The American Legacy Foundation presented the Sybil G. Jacobs Adult Award to Tong for her work on this study.
