The UC Davis School of Medicine ranked 44th among the nation's 123 medical schools in the National Institutes of Health research funding in fiscal year 2005. That is up from 62nd place just five years ago. Of the $107 million in research funding for fiscal 2005, the school received nearly $87 million in grant awards from the NIH.
Medical schools, teaching hospitals and other medical research institutions submit more than 40,000 funding applications to the NIH each year to support basic, clinical and translational research and to help train the next generation of physicians and scientists. Only one in four applications is funded.
