John T. Owings, professor of surgery and chief of Surgical Critical Care, has been appointed assistant dean for Student Affairs at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Owings is responsible for providing academic advising and personal counseling of medical students, supervising student records, working with the Student Progress Committee and Judicial Board, developing policies related to student issues, and working with the dean's office to increase the number of underrepresented groups in medicine.
