The UC Davis Women's Cardiovascular Medicine Program is expanding efforts to improve heart health for high-risk women in California with a $150,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program is targeting females older than 60 years, those living in rural areas and those of racial and ethnic minorities. Out of more than three-dozen institutions applying for grants, UC Davis was the only one in the West to receive the funding. The outreach effort includes heart screenings and risk assessments, improved diagnosis and treatment, better education about lifestyle modifications, and other preventive efforts.
