UC Davis Medical Center has been named by the federal Environmental Protection Agency and a local
coalition to the first-ever list of the best workplaces for commuters in the Sacramento region.
The 2003 Sacramento Region's Best Workplaces for Commuters list consists of 45 area employers, representing
60,000 employees. The Best Workplaces for Commuters program is a public-private partnership established
by the EPA and the U.S. Department of Transportation to recognize employers who offer superior commuter
benefits to employees, thereby reducing traffic and air pollution, and improving the health and qualityof
life for commuters.
To qualify for the Best Workplaces for Commuters list, an organization must meet a "National Standard
of Excellence" defined by the program. Employers sign a voluntary agreement to offer a series of
commuter benefits, including carpool/vanpool incentives, lockers/showers for cyclists or walkers, and
a central point of contact for information that actively informs employees of available commuter benefits.
