Timothy Albertson, who has been executive vice chair of the Department of Internal Medicine for 12 years, is acting chair of the department during the search for a permanent replacement. In his new role, Albertson oversees 11 divisions and more than 100 physicians, researchers, clinicians, fellows and other staff. The department provides a wide range of general medicine and specialty care services, from cardiovascular medicine and infectious diseases to pulmonary and critical care medicine. Albertson has been a professor and chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine for 20 years. He is also a professor of medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, anesthesia, and emergency medicine; medical director of the Sacramento Division of the California Poison Control System; and associate dean for academic and clinical programs at the School of Medicine.
