Pictured on the right, left to right, are Smith (age 54!), son Jonathan (17, high honors junior in high school), son Joel (20, just finished sophomore year at Southern Illinois U w/ straight A's), perfect wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher Janis, daughter-in-law Audrey, son Joshua (30, born when I was a junior at UC Davis School of Medicine and now a high school teacher in Portland, OR) and grandson Ransom Scott (almost 3 and of course multi-talented).
I will be returning to Africa in late June 2006 to work in Kitwe, Zambia for three weeks; I will be the medical director for a 30 member team working with the urban poor. Also attached is a photo from the trip last January to Awasa, Ethiopia; that's SPS on the left and my beloved friend Getachew on the right.
I am currently semi-retired from medicine and completing my secondary teaching certification in biology. Janis and I will celebrate our 33rd anniversary in London on my way back from Zambia and we plan an all-family vacation in Kona, HI in August. We are also finishing a major renovation on our old house in Oak Park. More importantly we are all healthy and happy!
Julie and I just celebrated our 28th anniversary and are blessed with two daughters. Melissa, 22, just graduated from M.I.T. and will be spending a year in Central America doing research, and Katie is a sophomore in high school. Julie is a part-time math teacher, while I work at AMGEN, as head of global development and chief medical officer. Previously, I worked at Lilly for 14 years during which time I also taught at Indiana University School of Medicine. We love being back in California!
Residency in diagnostic imaging at Harbor-UCLA. Fellowship in neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology at Harbor-UCLA and UCLA. Changed subspecialty to cardiac and vascular radiology which I did for 18 years in private practice, working in heart cath labs and performing clinical research in laser atherectomy of periferal arteries. Got alot of experience doing 3-dimensional CT imaging. Three years ago left private practice and joined Kaiser Harbor City/Southern California Permanente Medical Group (a great move) doing diagnostic and interventional radiology. Became a partner early this year. I work with fellow UC Davis Medical School alumni: Chris Jensen M.D. (radiology, Class of 1990), Steve Tran M.D. (radiology, Class of 1994), Sunit Mistry M.D. (pulmonary/critical care, Class of 1999), Dana Loo M.D. (pulmonary/ critical care fellow, 2005) and Alan Poon M.D. (nephrology, Class of 1977). Davis alums are the best! Member of the volunteer faculty of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. My teenagers are sprouting as are my grey hairs.
Just finished participating in a Kaiser Permanente TV commercial which will air nationwide in August 2006. Look for me!
I continue to live and practice Orthopaedics in Davis. My two sons have entered medical school and aviation. We enjoy a vacation home near Bozeman, Montana where fly fishing, skiing, rafting and hiking are available. I still love my job and lead a private practice.

I enjoy medical trips to Albania in October most years and serving on the board of the center for bioethics and culture www.thecbc.org. Scott and I enjoy skiing, biking and I enjoy his cooking! I'd love to hear from classmates at firstname.lastname@example.org (we live in the Bay Area).

Bought a second home on Oahu for my daughter who is excelling in Ice Skating and needed daily ice in Honolulu. I just graduated my second fellow through a grant supported, university-based developmental behavioral pediatric program. I will expand into a second office in Kapoleli in Oahu. Plan new boat and another child in near future.
My company is celebrating its 10th year in existence this year and we are proud to say that we are the largest psycho-pharmacology research Company in Oklahoma. My husband Jay, serves as my assistant and we love working together. Jay handles my private practice and my calendar (no easy task I assure you). We love going to Napa and keeping the economy of Northern California stable and traveling abroad. Hope to retire back in the Napa area before too many years but for now just trying to raise our 3 boys and enjoy life together.
I've been busy since leaving Sacramento. Jennifer and I have three children and a dog. I'm the secretary-treasurer for the Visalia Medical Clinic. I'm the managing general partner for a local surgery center and I'm the treasurer for a local cub scout troop. My practice is becoming and life is good in Visalia.
Finally finished my formal training approximately two years ago. I am currently an assistant professor in the department of critical care at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. I have an almost three year old handsome son named Mateo. Looking forward to reconnecting with my old classmates from class of 96/97 and 98.
