Geoffrey A. Smith
This is a picture from one of the classes I teach in Vietnam. The students include local practicing ear, nose and throat docs, teachers of the disabled and deaf children, and families of children receiving hearing aids thru the program, AHAC – Americans Helping Asian Children. Monitoring the classes are members of the regional or district communist party. Although their stated purpose is to observe, they are also in attendance to ensure that there are no political or religious overtones to the instruction. For the last couple of years, I have helped teach the junior gemology course at the Gemological Institute of America. I donated a chunk of their pre-Columbian gold and jade collection and use some of my archaeological collection examples in my talk. On a more personal level, this summer I will become a grandfather...with my daughter and her husband's help of course.

Kevin Keck
Kevin and Gail are in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Kevin is with Providence Health System toiling away as an executive trying to make health-care work in America. Always exciting and a challenge. He has finally realized that universal coverage is a necessary element to any kind of national success in this area. Stay tuned. He still enjoys practice periodically in Portland and in Roseville. Kevin and Gail are empty nesters and enjoy traveling. The kids are all doing well and are in San Jose and Portland.

New knee in 2006, and (in March) a new hip. And overall less pain. Maybe I'll be able to do a few more things!

I am the medical director for a branch of the VA named the Health Administration Center, the HAC, located only in Denver. We are the people who pay for CHAMPVA, the medical benefit coverage for widows and orphans. Our budget is approaching $1 billion per year. In addition to this 15-hour a week position, I still see veterans for compensation and pension exams, as I have intermittently for over 20 years. I also perform independent medical exams addressing employability and medical causality, which uses my undergraduate degree in chemical engineering as well as the graduate work in biomedical engineering. (I am amazed at how my career has finally tied these fields together.) The kids are thriving, with oldest a second-year resident, middle one getting grants for NASA research, and youngest graduating from CU in Math and Psychology.

William Jones
I semi-retired a year ago and am now working only three to four days/month. After 30-plus years of working nights, weekends, and holidays. I'm enjoying not working any of them. Nancy and I celebrate our 40th anniversary in June! We plan on continuing to travel widely. Besides travel, golf and computers occupy my time.

I have left private practice and have joined Sunrise Community Health Center in Greeley, Colo., as staff physician and faculty. I am also in my third year of study to become a deacon for the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver. If all goes as planned, I'll be ordained in Spring 2009.

I'm now working at Muir Pediatrics in Walnut Creek with the John Muir Medical Group and loving it. My husband and I have two girls, Mariella, 6, and Coralina, 3, who are growing fast and keep us very busy. I hope everyone is well!

At the end of April, Joe and I are very happy to be expecting a baby. We are looking forward to having our lives turned upside-down by a little one! We are still in Boulder, Colo., and I am practicing Holistic Family Medicine at Boulder Community Hospital. Joe is doing science support work for projects in both Antarctica and the Arctic, so he keeps me up to date on polar issues, as it will be at least another 18 years before I return to Antarctica again to work! All is well, and we are enjoying the return of spring here in Colorado. Take care, I hope all is well with you.

I am in my second year in my own private practice as an OB/GYN in Santa Monica. I have been married for eight years and have a 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter and currently am five months pregnant! I am a master juggler and fortunately love living and working in Santa Monica.

Wow. I relished the yearbook, and was sad to have missed the 10-year reunion. Getting nostalgic, it was hard to believe how grown up we are. No surprise to learn Saad was the first to publish a book, Jonathon traveled the world or Lorca lives in the country. It seemed like just about everyone who took the time to contribute has also made a commitment for balance in their life. In other words, part-time doc and part-time whatever. Being a physician really is a lifestyle all its own, but remembering the efforts the workforce put in fighting for the eight-hour workday in the late 1800s really makes you think. Check out the pictures and drop a line sometime. bpmiller@ ucsd.edu

I am living in Orinda and working in San Francisco at an Asian community clinic. My e-mail address is luongtlien @yahoo.com, and whoever wants to contact me has to mention that he or she is a UCD alumnus; otherwise, I do not open an e-mail that I do not recognize.

Finishing my fellowship in allergy and immunology at UC Davis in 6/08. Joining a private allergy practice in my hometown of Bakersfield in 7/08. My wife, Shannon, daughter, Belle, and I are thrilled to finally be moving back home close to family and friends!!

Tom Allumbaugh
The Allumbaugh clan expanded to four with the birth of Zachary Thomas on Feb. 14. Big brother Jake is now 3 and enjoys showing Zach how he can do everything by himself (especially jump on the couch). Karin and I are doing well, enjoying the rural life and picking up new hobbies like tractor driving and discussing the merits of various chicken breeds with the neighbors. If you're ever near Bend, look us up. karintom@ communitybroadband.com.

I have finished my dermatology residency and fellowship out in North Carolina (Wake Forest) and have returned to Davis with my husband, Peter, and our 2-year-old daughter, Abigail. I am working at the Woodland Clinic, both in its Davis and Woodland offices. It is great to be back in the Davis area. I've already run into a few old friends, and I know more are still practicing in the area. Hope to see you at the farmer's market!
