Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Surgical Oncology Chief, the incumbent will provide clinical expertise to Oncology patients and their families with complex problems, primarily in the outpatient setting in the UC Davis Cancer Center clinics. The incumbent will also be involved in research including developing IRB submissions, contributing in the submission of grant proposals, preparations of abstracts, publications and presentations. The role of the Surgical Oncology Nurse Practitioner is to facilitate multidisciplinary care through interaction with Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Patient care provided includes but not limited to, initiating appropriate consultations and referrals, postoperative patient wound evaluation, wound evaluation and care, seroma evacuation, follow-up evaluations; and patient care planning, care education, and coordination of care.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Passing of UCDMC Performance Demonstration, Policy Review and Medication Exam. CPR Certification. At least 6 months recent experience in similar setting preferred.
Special Requirements
Must have knowledge necessary to thoroughly interview a patient and perform a complete physical exam. Must have knowledge necessary to arrive at a correct assessment and care plan. Verbal skills to elicit complaints from various socio-economic groups and communicate effectively with parents, patients, nurses, staff and physicians. Must be able to clearly communicate patient problems and needs to consult. Ability to write legibly. Knowledge of approved abbreviations for UCDMC medical records. Advanced level of knowledge and nursing skills specifically in area of clinical practice. Ability to apply relevant theories and concepts to clinical practice. Ability to perform the procedures as specified in job description and relevant to clinical practice. Ability to access and effectively meet the needs of the patient and their family.
