Information for U.S. medical graduates

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment: 1) graduate of medical schools in the US and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME); 2) graduate of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the US accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).  Applicants are considered and appointments are made by the Chair of the Department of Surgery subject to the rules and regulations of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Details of the NRMP can be found in the Directory of Approved Internships and Residencies.

The Surgery Residency Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We will only  accept applications through this process. Our Preliminary Program is available to those individuals who match into advanced residency programs at UCDMC and require one year of general surgery for Board requirements.   Therefore, we do not offer interviews to individuals interested in a one year position.  Any unfilled preliminary positions are typically filled through the NRMP Scramble (see new Scramble Rules - www.nrmp.org).

Interviews held during the 2020-21 interview season will be conducted remote/virtually. The first day residency programs will be able to download and review applications from ERAS will be October 21, 2020.  Prospective applicants are encouraged to have all required documents uploaded into ERAS no later than October 21, 2020. Applicants will be notified about Invitations to interview for in early November 2020.
