Information for International Medical Graduates

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment: Graduates of medical schools outside the US and Canada who meet both of the following requirements; 1) hold a current certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG); and 2) have received an Evaluation Status Letter from the Medical Board of California. This letter must indicate that they are eligible for licensure in the State without any deficiencies in their medical school training. Applicants are considered and appointments are made, by the Chair of the Department of Surgery subject to the rules and regulations of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The Surgery Residency Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We will only accept applications through this process. The Department of Surgery at UCDHealth grants interviews after an initial screening process. Your application must be submitted in its entirety by October 21, 2020. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIAL:

  1. ERAS Common Application Form
  2. A curriculum vitae and a one page personal statement
  3. Official medical school transcript, and if applicable, and English translation attached
  4. USMLE, Step I, Step II (if available)
  5. Three (3) letters of recommendation.
  6. Copy of current, valid ECFMG Certificate
  7. *Evaluation Status Letter from the Medical Board of California (must be dated in 2020)
  8. Legal right to remain and work in the US (J-1 visa or permanent resident status)

*Due to the ongoing changes in the approved examinations and requirements to qualify for licensure in the State of California, the letter from the Medical Board of California is mandatory and must be received by the deadline date.

Interviews held during the 2020-21 interview season will be conducted remote/virtually. The first day residency programs will be able to download and review applications from ERAS will be October 21, 2020.  Prospective applicants are encouraged to have all required documents uploaded into ERAS no later than October 21, 2020. Applicants will be notified about Invitations to interview for in early November 2020.
