Claire Pomeroy

Claire Pomeroy, M.D., M.B.A., is vice chancellor for human health sciences at UC Davis and dean of the UC Davis School of Medicine.

Pomeroy is an expert in infectious diseases and a professor of internal medicine and microbiology and immunology. As vice chancellor, she oversees the UC Davis Health System and all its academic, research and clinical programs, including an 800-member physician group and the 530-bed acute-care hospital, the UC Davis Medical Center.

As one of the representatives from the five University of California medical schools, Pomeroy is a member of the Independent Citizens Oversight Commission. The commission is charged with governing the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, which was established by Proposition 71, the stem-cell initiative adopted by California voters in 2004. Her work on the commission includes being a member of subcommittees on governance, legislation and facilities.

Pomeroy joined UC Davis in 2003, where she leads an active research team studying host responses to infectious diseases and continues to advocate for patients with HIV/AIDS. She also has published more 100 articles and book chapters, and has a special interest in health care policy.

Pomeroy received her bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Michigan, and completed her residency and fellowship training in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota. She earned an M.B.A. from the University of Kentucky and held faculty positions at the University of Minnesota and the University of Kentucky prior to moving to UC Davis.
