heart diseaseWith heart disease being the nation’s number-one cause of death and disability, this UC Davis team is working with bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells, in combination with a bioengineered framework known as an extracellular matrix, to regenerate damaged heart tissue, prevent heart disease and restore cardiac function. The cardiac team has completed one clinical trial with stem cells and the novel bioengineered “stem cell patch” is next in the pipeline.
