Our team can help enhance athletic performance and physical fitness, prevent acute and chronic injuries and extend athletic careers. When injuries do occur, nationally renowned UC Davis sports medicine physicians, orthopaedic surgeons and therapists offer expert management of joint, muscle, bone and other problems.
Team physicians to the pros
Since 1985, the UC Davis Sports Medicine program has provided team care for the Sacramento Kings, keeping players healthy through the rigors of an 82-game regular season and countless practices and workouts.
UC Davis physicians have also provided care or consultation for Olympic-level athletes and teams, major league soccer organizations and college athletics programs such as the UC Davis Aggies.

Nationally renowned UC Davis sports medicine physicians are fellowship-trained in sports medicine and specialize in the non-operative assessment and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal sports conditions in athletes and patients of all ages. They treat both common and uncommon conditions and help encourage lifelong fitness, wellness and prevention. - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
UC Davis Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation staff are expertly trained in rehabilitation to return patients to pre-injury level or above wherever possible, and have worked with a wide array of professional, collegiate, amateur elite and other competitive athletes. Members work in teams to create individualized programs for reducing pain, improving mobility and reducing risk of further injury.
The department’s sports performance laboratory offers a wide variety of physiological and biomechanical tests for elite athletes, such as VO2max and ventilatory threshold, lactate profile, anaerobic power assessment and torque analysis to gauge and improve performance and prevent injury. The laboratory also offers standard and video bicycle fittings for cyclists and triathletes.
