Arta Monjazeb selected Clinical and Translational Science Center K12 Scholar
November 14, 2011
Congratulations to Dr. Arta Monjazeb who was selected as a UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) K12 Scholar. Dr. Monjazeb was awarded funding to work on his project titled, "Radiotherapy and Immunotherapy in Patients with Metastatic Sarcoma". His research will focus on patients with high grade sarcomas who have distant metastases during their disease course, with the hope of providing additional therapies for this group. Dr. Monjazeb will study human sarcoma tissue samples from patients treated with standard pre-operative radiotherapy and test immune markers in pre- and post-radiotherapy samples to validate our techniques and provide baselines for future clinical studies. Additionally, he will retrospectively investigate the correlation of these markers with local control, distant metastases and survival outcomes. The desired hope is the research will provide the quantitative data to begin a phase I/II clinical trial testing in humans with metastatic sarcoma to determine the feasibility, safety, and response rate of radiotherapy and CpG immunotherapy.
