James A. Purdy, Ph.D., Professor and Vice Chair of Radiation Oncology, co-edited the latest volume of Technical Basis of Radiation Therapy. All the chapters for this fourth edition were rewritten and updated by leaders in the field of radiation therapy, including several members of the UC Davis radiation oncology faculty. The new book covers the use of imaging in radiation treatment planning, secondary malignant neoplasm due to irradiation, and quality assurance in radiation oncology. The first portion of the book presents basic concepts in treatment planning, including essential physics, and explains various approaches to radiation therapy, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy, tomotherapy and high- and low-dose brachytherapy. Practical clinical applications of these approaches in the treatment of different cancers are defined in the second part of the book. This textbook, intended for clinicians, educators, residents and researchers, makes a significant contribution to patient management
