Clinical/Research Interests

Richard E. Latchaw, M.D., Professor of Radiology and Chief of Neuroradiology at the UC Davis Medical Center since 2002, has been a practitioner of diagnostic and interventional Neuroradiology for the past 35 years. Dr. Latchaw has been a leader in the development of Diagnostic Neuroradiology throughout his career. His particular interests have been in the diagnosis of brain tumors and cerebrovascular abnormalities. He has performed all forms of image-guided procedures in the head, neck, and spine, including intracranial and extracranial angioplasty and stenting, ablation of aneurysms and of vascular malformations and fistulae, and recanalization of acutely occluded vessels. He is internationally known for his work in the diagnosis and treatment of acute ischemic stroke, including evaluation of cerebral perfusion. His current research interests are the development of thrombectomy devices and catheter-based systems to treat brain tumors and the traumatized brain.
