Body Magnetic Resonance Imaging Fellowship Program

Clinical Duties:

Body MR Service

  1. The Body MR service will include all non-neuro MR cases performed at all sites. These include musculoskeletal, abdomen, pelvis, chest, cardiac, and vascular MR studies.

  2. The fellow or resident assigned to BMR service will be directly responsible for protocoling, supervising the performance of (includes contrast injection), and interpreting all Body MR cases at all sites. This will include contacting referring physicians for questions, prompt interpretation and dictation of all cases, and telephone reporting of results.

  3. Faculty of the various radiology subspecialty services will be responsible for prompt interpretation of all cases:
    • Musculoskeletal: MSK  faculty 
    • Abdomen/pelvis: Abdominal Imaging CT/MR Faculty 
    • Chest: Chest Faculty
    • Cardiac: Cardiac Faculty

  4. The fellow/resident assigned to BMR is responsible for reviewing all cases with the responsible faculty physician prior to final interpretation.
    Service coverage:
    a) MR fellow: 8 months/year
    b) Abdominal Imaging fellow: 2 months each/year
    c) Resident: 2 months minimum/4 years
    d) A fellow or senior resident will always be assigned to the service.

  5. The goals of this rotation are:
    a) To provide a high quality clinical service responsive to the needs and desires of patients and referring physicians.
    b) To expedite through-put and increase the number of cases performed by prompt scheduling, accurate efficient protocols, and prompt result reporting.
    c) To provide a high-quality, educational experience for fellows and residents.

Ultrasound Service

The MR fellow will be assigned to the in-patient or out-patient ultrasound service for a minimum of 2 months during the fellowship. When assigned to the ultrasound service, the MR fellow will have the same duties as are assigned to the Abdominal Imaging fellows on the ultrasound service. The in-patient ultrasound service provides the opportunity for the MR fellow to expand skills in ultrasound examination and in the performance of ultrasound-guided biopsy and interventional procedures.

Body CT Service

The MR fellow will be assigned to the in-patient Body CT service for a minimum of 3 weeks. The fellows duties will be identical to the duties of the Abdominal Imaging fellows assigned to Body CT. This service provides the opportunity for the fellow to expand skills in Body CT examinations and in CT-guided biopsy and interventional procedures.

Elective

The time allotted for electives is intended to allow some flexibility for the fellow to pursue further training in specific areas of interest. Electives must be approved by the Director of the fellowship and may not be taken in the first four months of the year.

Teaching Responsibilities

  1. The fellow will actively participate in teaching residents and students assigned to MR imaging services.
  2. The fellow will prepare and deliver a minimum of four teaching conferences during the year for the radiology residents.
  3. The fellow will participate in appropriate clinical conferences as designated by the fellowship Director.

On-Call Duties: As per the Department of Radiology chair.

Requirements

  1. Completion of four-year residency in the United States or Canada.

  3. Requirement for Acceptance of International Medical Graduates at UC Davis for Postgraduate Training.
