Dr. Rong's clinical interests covers a full spectrum of treatment modalities, including external beam radiotherapy, HDR brachytherapy, imaging guided radiotherapy, respiratory gating, Gamma Knife, linac-based stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).
Dr. Rong's research interests include improvement of treatment protocols and quality assurance, design of clinical trials, study of various treatment modalities, Respiratory gated and imaged guided radiotherapy.
Her future research interests will continue to be clinical and physics oriented, with more focus on functional imaging and biological modeling. Recent emergent positron-emitting isotopes, such as Zr-89 or Cu-64 for Positron Emitting Tomography (PET) / CT scanning, have great potential in target identifying for radiation therapy treatments. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) provides high sensitivity and specificity for various cancer sites, and greatly helps in defining tumor size and stage. My future research will focus on investigating functional images and their applications in Radiotherapy, as well as radiobiological aspects of SBRT treatments.
