Philosophy of Care

My goal is to help my patients move better through their recreation, their sports, their lives... without joint pain. While I care for many athletes, I'm equally passionate about helping non-athletes achieve their best possible sense of physical comfort and remain engaged in the activities that bring them joy.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Waite’s clinical focus is sports medicine, specializing in non-surgical treatment of joint, muscle and nerve problems in order to help people perform better in sports and daily life activities. She creates personalized strategies for relevant therapeutic exercise and lifestyle modifications, using both basic and advanced injection techniques when needed. Dr. Waite has treated a wide range of elite athletes participating in professional leagues, national teams and extreme-endurance competitions. She also cares for “weekend warrior” level athletes and non-athletes with joint, muscle and nerve issues that prevent them from reaching daily activity goals.

Dr. Waite currently serves as an official team physician for the Sacramento Republic FC professional men's soccer team and for UC Davis and American River College collegiate sports teams. She has previously served as a team physician for the U.S. national track and field program, for Sacramento’s professional men's and women’s basketball teams, and also for the Sacramento Ballet. She has directed multiple marathons and ultra-marathons including the California International Marathon and Racing The Planet, an organization that sponsors ultra-running races in remote wildnerness locations around the world, including Antarctica, the Sahara desert, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, New Zealand, Australia, the Gobi desert in China, and many other sites.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Waite’s research focuses on musculoskeletal medicine. Specific topic areas include knee osteoarthritis treatments, anti-inflammatory treatments and prevention. She has published a book on injury treatment and prevention for runners in addition to numerous book chapters and journal articles on a wide range of topics. She has presented at national meetings for organizations such as the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Waite is the director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship program at UC Davis Health and is the Section Chief for Non-surgical Sports Medicine. She serves as the leader for Preventive Medicine implementation in the curriculum for the School of Medicine. Dr. Waite also has been a national speaker on topics of leadership and promotion in academic medicine.
