Maxwell A. Fung, M.D. is Board-certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology and has been engaged in the full-time practice of academic medicine as an attending physician for over 22 years. Dr. Fung wears two patient care hats: one as a diagnostic dermatopathologist who interprets skin biopsy specimens, and one as a dermatologist evaluating patients at the bedside (physician-to-physician consultation only).

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Fung's original research focuses on ways to improve diagnostic accuracy and communication between physicians in ways that are practical and of immediate clinical relevance (appropriate use criteria, alopecia, caterpillar bodies, dermal hypersensitivity, dysplastic nevus, eosinophils, epidermotropism, morphea, psoriasis). Dr. Fung also enjoys collaborating with world-class scientists for basic research endeavors (galectin-3, comparative transcriptomics, microparticles, Western diet).
