Philosophy of Care

It's hard to be a patient. I have walked the road of serious illness with my own family. I have slept overnight in the hospital, waking up to the beeping of IV machines, and waited each morning for the rounding team. When we were home, we arranged caregivers, organized piles of medications and tried to make the best of hard times. My experience may be very different from yours, but I learned that it is very hard to be a patient, as well as a family member when things get serious.

Years later, after working as a hospitalist, I found my passion in palliative medicine -- i.e. walking with patients and families through serious illness. I completed my fellowship at UC Davis and joined an incredible team as we opened the Supportive Medicine Clinic at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our mission is to support patients and their families as they travel their journey with cancer. This may include symptom management, exploring your goals for care, or providing additional support resources through our interdisciplinary team (dieticians, social workers, a chaplain).
