Philosophy of Care

Family medicine appeals to me because it affords me the opportunity to treat the whole patient —encompassing physical as well as psychological well-being. The development of a strong bond between a patient and his or her physician is central to achieving optimal care. There must be a mutual respect between doctor and patient. Physicians must be able and willing to provide accurate, evidence-based and up-to-date information so that patients can make good decisions about their health care. Listening to the patient is very important to me. While we as physicians are able to utilize our knowledge to help evaluate patients, we must remember that the patient can provide the most information about his or her situation, whether it is a physical problem or an emotional challenge that the patient has encountered. Working for UC Davis allows me to educate patients with the most current information and provides easy access to the latest procedures. As part of a large physician network, I am able to serve patients of all cultural, educational and financial backgrounds.
